Tintwistle Parish Council is responsible for providing a range of tailored services to the local community based on identified needs. Services are funded through the annual precept as well as other income sources such as grants, fund-raising and local donations. Here is a list of the main services the Council provides:
Community and Leisure:

- Responds to resident’s concerns about issues affecting the community, engaging with appropriate partners and stakeholders to resolve problems.
- Organises or liaises with community events such as the Remembrance Sunday Procession, Christmas lights switch-on, national events and coffee mornings.
- An ongoing partnership with the Tintwistle Bowling Club, providing accommodation to help support the club and its members
- Organises or supports local events to help raise funds for local causes. Examples include car boot sales, tombola and market events.
- Room Hire – The Council’s Community Centre and Playing fields may be booked by groups or for special events. For full details including current charges and terms and conditions of use, please see the Council’s ‘Community Hall and Field Hire policy’ within ‘Policies’ (see ‘Documents’ section).
- Provides and maintains several publicly accessible community spaces for the enjoyment of all namely:
- Sexton Street playing fields
- Sexton Street multi-use games area
- Holybank Quarry
- Provides small funding awards for initiatives that benefit the local community via the annual Parish Council Community Fund process. For further information, see the ‘News’ section of this website.
Management of Allotments:

- Manages the allocation and use of 85 allotments across four sites
- Liaises with Tintwistle Allotment Gardeners’ Association (TAGA) through a partnership agreement to ensure plots meet the standards in the tenant Terms and Conditions.
- Conducts regular inspections and maintains waiting lists. To be added to the waiting list, please contact the Parish Clerk.
Public Safety:

- Maintains five of the parishes seven defibrillators for emergency situations. For location details, see ‘Services – Additional Information’ page.
- Maintains effective working relationships with the local beat officer and PCSO to help tackle any crime and disorder concerns.
- Works with DCC and United Utilities to tackle flood damage-related issues.
Environment and Planning:

- Undertakes Climate Change and Bio-Diversity initiatives in line with a ‘Climate Change and Nature Recovery Plan’, produced in conjunction with an appointed, voluntary Campaign Coordinator. For a copy of the plan, see ‘Policies’ in the ‘Documents’ section.
- Liaises with the Friends of the Quarry Group to ensure the conservation and biodiversity of Holybank Quarry.
- Reviews all planning applications affecting the Parish and raises appropriate objections in line with legislation.

Highways and Road Safety:

- Maintains working relationships with Highways England, DCC, High Peak Borough Council, Derbyshire Police and local groups regarding traffic and other road safety issues including gully cleaning, streetlamp outages and the Village Gateway Scheme.

Parish Council Business Plan – The Council constantly seeks to improve and expand the range of services it provides to the local community. Details of current priorities can be found in the Council’s Business Plan which is reviewed annually. For a copy, see ‘Policies’ in the ‘Documents’ section.
A key priority remains the development of a new community centre for the village. Now that planning permission has been obtained, efforts will continue to identify grant-funding to support the building of the new and long-awaited community centre to be enjoyed by all.
